According to the LA Times, Sony and Disney are in disagreement over which studio's film actually holds the record for opening weekend box office reports.
While Pirates raked in $404 Million in its worldwide opening over a 6-day period compared to $382 Million for SpiderMan 3, Sony argues that Disney has included figures from early previews that should not be included in the totals. Disney, of course, denies any misrepresentation and claims that even without the early preview totals, the Pirates still trounced Spidey.
Honestly, though-- with gross reports for both movies approaching half a bilion dollars each within days of their release (not to mention the millions more in the store from the upcoming DVD releases), does it really matter? Seems to me that there is plenty of bragging to go around.
